Carotid Ultrasound

A Carotid Ultrasound is a non-invasive, diagnostic imaging procedure that uses sound waves to evaluate the health of the carotid arteries in your neck. This test is crucial for detecting plaque buildup and narrowing that could increase the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular events.

Assessing Carotid Artery Health and Stroke Risk

What Is a Carotid Ultrasound?

A Carotid Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create detailed images of the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain. It helps detect atherosclerosis, a condition where plaque builds up in the arteries, narrowing the blood flow and potentially leading to a stroke. This test is essential for people at risk for cardiovascular disease or stroke.

Why Choose a Carotid Ultrasound?

  • Early Stroke Detection: Identifies plaque buildup or narrowing of the carotid arteries that can lead to stroke.
  • Evaluate Cardiovascular Health: A carotid ultrasound provides a quick and reliable assessment of your arterial health and stroke risk
  • Non-invasive & Safe: The procedure is painless, non-invasive, and does not involve radiation, making it safe for most patients.

What to Expect During the Procedure

During the Carotid Ultrasound, a licensed sonographer will apply gel to your neck, and the transducer (a small handheld device) will be gently moved across the skin. The ultrasound captures real-time images of the carotid arteries, assessing blood flow and plaque buildup. The procedure typically takes about 20–30 minutes, and you will receive radiologist-reviewed results on the same day.
